Yellowing Vanda leaf... can someone help me ?
Default Yellowing Vanda leaf... can someone help me ?

We've only had our vanda a few months. It came with two flowers spikes. One in bloom and one still in buds. The first spike that was in bloom has started to brown and some of the flowers have slowly started to fall. From what I've read this is normal. The other flowers spike with the buds has opened is in bloom right now no issues. The problem is with two leaves. One is right under where the browning spike is and the other in way down at the bottom by the roots. They are turning yellow then brownish black. I thought at first this was sunburn so I got a shear curtain to protect it from direct sun. However the last few days the brown has been spreading faster even though it's been behind the curtain. Help me please if you can identify what's happing to my vanda please let me know I am open to all advice and recommendations. I've attached some pictures of my issue. Thank you

My best guess is not enough water. What is the ambient humidity? How often are you watering? Vandas need watering every day in the most humid environments. In less than ideal humidity they need even more watering. I soak the roots of mine overnight every 2-3 days during warm weather or the leaves begin to wrinkle.

The real question is: Is the yellow spreading? Yellow tissue is already dead and will eventually turn brown no matter what you do.

Yes it is spreading only in the one leaf but it keeps creeping closer and closer to the crown. We decided yesterday we better cut the leaf. Do you agree ? Thank you for your help this community has been very welcoming and informational.

Also regarding the watering. We soak the vanda once to twice a day. We do have a humidifier in the room we added it recently when when we got a dial that told us the humidity in the air. We have a great root system and other flower spike is doing good. I've attached a photo of our plant right before the one spike starts browning and the leaf of that stike started turning yellow. (This is not the location where our orchid hangs normally it is only hung here for the photo. Usually hanging in a south facing French door with a shear white curtain) thank you for your help and advice.

Yes, cut the leaf. In enough humidity, watering once a day should be enough. Usually, a Vanda that is not getting enough water will have folded leaves. Also, a systemic fungicide may be in order if more leaves start yellowing.
It is good that you have a good root system.
