Default My Crazy Vandas

Ok, so I've had Ascda. Ken Kone (orange) and Ascda. Princess Mikassa Mood Indigo for 2 and a half weeks, and Vanda Robert's Delight Black, and Rynchocentrum Lilac Blossom for 1 and a half weeks. I'm so new, I get ridiculously excited when anything changes on these plants..... much more so than my other orchids. So.... I'm going to have to barrage you with pictures of them

Ok... so Ken Kone is still blooming and happy. I started to paint it, but I think I won't get that done anytime soon. Too much is going on right now. The very bottom leaf has turned yellow since I brought it home, but other than that, it looks fine to me... roots are great on this one

Princess Mikassa was my baby from the start, as I started all this by looking specifically for a BLUE vanda. However... this girl gave me a surprise the other day, and I have since found out she is making a seed pod. Now... I have a theory that it may be the little gnat flies that I'm finding occasionally in the house.... but still.... My vanda went and got knocked up Still haven't decided if I want to do anything with the seeds... but I've got 5-7 months to decide

This one came with a basal keiki. I'm loving the baby on me baby. All the flowers are starting to wilt now

Robert's delight has the HUGEST SPIKE! I'm so excited to see the flower in this guy that I could burst. Other than that, it's not really concentrating on anything. He's a happy orchid

Lilac Blossom is so cute, and has been confounding me since I got it I knew when I bought it that it had a spike on it. But it also has this secondary growth that will either be a keiki or another spike... I have no idea which, they look really similar... anyone know?

Also, I tossed in pictures of my Phal. equestris..... it's gonna bloom soon! excited!!!

They look really good! What are you doing for your waterings that you are getting such good growth with them indoors like that? Are they just window fellas/gals?

Especially Ascda. Ken Kone, the first picture it looks like it's making a huge root! It seems that all the vandas I have gotten look similar to yours, smaller roots, but when they get in good conditions they start making really thick and chunky roots, which is good! I just wonder why the nurseries which they came from weren't able to produce those kinds of roots?

Hi shams,
Are your baskets lined with sphag moss?
What is the humidity in your room?
Your vandas look great!

Thanks everyone! I hope my Vandas keep doing what they are doing

Ocelaris: I've got all my Vandas near a window. My townhouse faces east/west, and there aren't really any windows on the east side (just the front door ) So I have Ken Kone and Princess Mikassa hanging beside the window over the sink. Actually BOTH of them have those huge fat roots. They came with them, and it's those roots I use as my watering indicator more than the others, because they take the longest to turn green Robert's Delight and Lilac Blossom are hanging beside the sliding door 4 feet down from the other ones. I mist them all twice daily, and every couple of days they get a good soaking in the sink.

Buds: I did line my baskets with a little big of moss. Just enough to hold in moisture for a bit longer, as the roots do dry off really quickly. It was a little tip the grower gave me for growing indoors in cold cold Ontario I have a humidifier in the kitchen that keeps the humidity at around 50%. Between that and all the mistings, everyone seems to be happy

Yup I’ve learned its pretty hard to over water a vanda…yet at the same time that’s what makes having them hard to keep…the constant need of water…by the way Shams your Vandas are looking great… I can’t wait to see what your Roberts Delight Black looks like in bloom…
