Give Ray credit for the roots, I just got the plant.

Impressive root system, John! Hope it continues to do as well for you as it obviously did for Ray. The roots definitely seem to display their Vanda heritage as opposed to taking after the Neo. (I say that knowing that neos are also now vanda. I just choose to ignore it. )

Well being as I know you are knowledgeable about fish and may(?do?) have fish of your own, here's a thought for you ...
Long, long ago, in a galaxy far away when I was in university there were a few greenhouses on campus that were open for students to visit. In one of those greenhouses, a Vanda had been hung with base of the basket approx 4 or 5ft above a koi pond. I noticed the roots were dangling in the pond and, being curious, walked over for a closer look. The roots were not merely touching the water's surface. Rather they had grown down to the bottom of the koi pond and continued along the bottom of the pond for what appeared to be a good 4-5 ft more. The roots, from what I could see, looked quite healthy and the koi didn't seem to mind sharing their pond. I don't imagine the greenhouse caretakers had to ever worry about watering or fertilizing that Vanda.

Put those roots in a clay pot with some chunky bark. Then water about once a week (depending). That is what I do with all vandas.
