Thanks all. Every time I see warm growing I wonder but I have had my equestris for along time and they say it's warm growing. I know my house gets into the 50's sometimes at night and then when the sun is shining it will get into the 80's in the day time. I think it was the miniatum that I saw. I was in love. I was going to suggest this one for the project plant.

I would go for that if it's readily available. I already suggested Ascocentrum pumilum a while ago, so I guess any Asctm. would do for me.

The general rule for Vandas, is that they can tolerate night temperatures down to 55F, but not any lower (they go dormant for months). However, there are many Vandaceous plants that come from higher elevations, and thus tolerate lower temperatures.

Of the original Vandas, tricolor is intermediate, while cristata & coerulea are cool growing.

Asctm ampullaceum and miniatum (and thus Mona Church) can both be grown intermediate. In my greenhouse the thermostat is set at 55F, and I am sure that we occasionally have zones that drop into the low 50's, and I have not had a problem with any of my small Vandaceous plants.

It is so cute I just love it. And I was looking at a cross I got last summer from Ray and I have a Neo x with an ampullaceum but it hasn't bloomed yet. After looking at this I am getting very impatient for it to bloom.

I was reading about these in my Orchid Encyclopedia the other day and they were saying that most of the ones grown are garayi but that they are called minimum which is lesser cultivated. Any thoughts on this.

And the tiny freebie one has a spike also. My ampullaceum and miniatum aren't doing anything.

Mona Church (hybrid) can bloom any time of the year. Ampullaceum & miniatum ( species) tend to bloom in May-June, at least in NJ.
