Relax Shep....no need worry about your spike....if it is thriving in that particular place then don't move it....it takes at least 23 days to fully open its blooms (in hybrids and its longer days for species) when its about to open its blooms bring it indoors and put it back in its vase=some bugs want to eat petals in fact if it is producing sweet dew put it inside or sucking bugs will damage the buds....
Feed it weakly weekly not everyday =that's overkill....but if its hot and sunny water twice a day....
*pink=maybe just like my Vanda Pachara Delight 'pink'....it is very easy to grow....no fuss at all and I grow them in my apartment in Manhattan; whereas you have a Japanese Maple tree outdoors to hang it (big envy)
