Default Vanda Manuvadee ‘Blue’

(Vanda Ponpimol × Vanda coerulea)

This is a vigorous growing temperature-tolerant Vanda; the coerulea parent trait lets this thrive on a lower temperature than most Vandas. The color is deep blue-violet with beautiful white tessellations and dark violet spots. I decided to give this vase culture. Water is liberally given in the warmer months by soaking for half a day, but I let the roots dry quickly. In winter I lessen fertilizer and watering regimen.
80 percent humidity is ideal. In tropical climates this may be easy to obtain but since I grow these in my apartment; vase culture is working fine. I give it air movement with oscillating fans from two humidifiers on each side of the south facing bay window.
I feed it k-lite alternated with Algoflash and seaweed mix every other week by soaking it for half a day (starting 6AM in the morning and then I throw away the liquid by 6PM )
I got this a couple of years ago and it blasted a spike last year yet decided to give me this year eight large (4 and a half inches) flowers that just newly opened so the blooms are not yet fully flat.

Mine hasn't stopped blooming since it finally bloomed earlier this year. Now its just back to back spikes that I now have to extend the wire hanger. Mine is in bloom currently as well!
A Very beautiful flower indeed.

Have missed your posts! The bloom and foto are so complimentary. Vase culture has perked up my ears and you're certainly having success. Do you do the vase thing with any of its hybrids(smaller ones)?

Thanks for your kind remarks! Now that it has started blooming, I hope it continues to flower. I have seen this kind of Vanda bloom all year round.

Thank You for the visit! I wanted to collect this orchid plant precisely because of its tessellations, spots and colors

Thank You for the visit! I was on tour as a light designer in Europe and Canada for a dance troupe. I was not able to photograph my spring blooms. But now I am back in Manhattan and my summer blooms are just terrific....

This is beautiful! I have a Vanda Coerulea seedling (or I suppose "yearling" now) and grow in a NYC apartment. I'm tempted to try something like this. Mine is growing but the roots, while always green in color, also always look very dry and not waxy.

So it lives in a water vase half the day and then you hang it to dry overnight?

Vase culture for coerulea is doable.

Vanda coerulea (The Wild Form)

My vase culture= I put water or fertilizer liquid mix in the vase and then pour it out without removing the plant from the vase. The orchid plant stays on the glass vase at all times.
Vandas can grow roots fast and they can grow pencil thick just like my Vanda coerulea that is five years old in my care.

when you remove the liquid from the vase you will be surprised how fast the roots dry up yet it does not dehydrate; it retains moisture and humidity inside the glass yet not letting any fungi or bacteria to infest it. Once a month I soak it with soap and liquid cinnamon (never use powdered cinnamon it will desiccate the roots) just to rule out fungi or bacteria infestation....
