Aerides houlletiana x odorata First Bloom
Hello All,
This is a first bloom 'seedling' of Aerides houlletiana x odorata. The plant was part of an import I did last year, I can't remember where it came from but I think it was a Thai seller. The plant came mounted on a coconut husk, completely obscuring the husk with roots, and was almost 15 inches long, there is no evidence of previous flowerings which is a bit odd as most Aerides are prolific bloomers even when small.
The flowers are 1.25 inches across and they are very fragrant, sweet and lemony just like the odorata parent. There is another one of this hybrid in bloom as well but the blooms have already begun to fade before a picture could be taken.

WOW! Im in love! And I'm drooling!
I had my Aerides houlletiana bloom for me this year, and the smell was amazing.
I knows yours must smell amazing.
Do u import plants often? Who do you order from?
Rhynchostylis and Aerides are my favorite and i hear thai sellers usually have the best plants.

Beautiful bunch of blooms. If this is first bloom the future blooms will be fantastic.

I don't import directly, way too much paperwork and hassle to get plants through customs in California. I try to time purchases with the larger shows, Redlands - POE - SBOE, and submit large orders with the visiting vendors before hand.
If you are interested in Aerides and Rhynchostylis I recommend contacting Kultana Orchids (Thailand) and Hengduan Mountains Biotechnology (China) as they both carry very nice plants from both genera and I have never had any problems with plants purchased from their nurseries.
