I acquired this plant two weeks ago from eBay in spike and absolutely love it! only one bud blasted and it is fairly healthy overall.

Might I suggest changing that pot to a net basket or square plastic or wooden basket no more than 4 inches. I'm afraid that pot may lead to root rot given your temperature zone. Your roots will need to breathe more. Given your temperature changes with the seasons, you could still fill the basket with some coarse bark and perlite to retain some moisture as you may not have weather that permits everyday watering like the tropics.
Beautiful flower aside from all that!

I had thought about that too. It looks established in the pot and it's convenient for me cause it saves space being in a pot like this. We'll see after it flowers..

You can always put it in a clay pot. That is how I keep my vandas. There are videos on Youtube from Brad's Greenhouse how he keeps some vandas in clay pots.

I grow under lights in the colder months and outside during spring and summer. They usually flower in the warmer months while growing leaves and roots at the same time.

Yea it does. Artificial lighting usually shows The blue color however, natural lighting shows it's true and natural color. You should see my pachara delight photo under artificial lights! It is BLUE! Hehe

How long did it take from the first onset of spike (deep inside the leaf pocket) to open bloom??

I have a vanda that has a start of a spike deep inside the leaf pocket, but it's been there doing nothing in the past one month or more. Quite frustrating.
