I have a vanda that has a start of a spike deep inside the leaf pocket, but it's been there doing nothing in the past one month or more. Quite frustrating.
It's quite fast. Twice as fast than a phal. If it sits there doing nothin then that spike had stalled and will eventually dry up. I have a coerulea that did stall it's spike twice cause it wasn't doing very well probably it lacked the energy to go on with the spike. It happens sometimes. When you see that spike, make sure you don't change anything outside of your regular culture and temps.

Dang it! It's my first spike.
I bought the plant in bloom last summer and it is spiking for me earlier this year so I was really excited about it. Beautiful large pink flowers.

I guess I'll have to wait forever again now.

I grow mine in an empty acrylic vase it came in, and it sits in the south window. I have to admit that there were times when I slacked on watering, so it might have suffered quite a bit. Oh, well...

As much as I love the flowers, the watering has been a nightmare for me. Filling up the vase and then drain. I had to do it everyday, but I did skip a few times and sometimes for too long of an interval in between watering. Oh, well...

Your new spikes sounds like it has aborted. For whatever reason, the chances of it developing are little to none. This can be caused by stress, under-watering, or insufficient light or fertilizer. It could as a result lack the energy or it could be pests.
That being said, if it is a young plant, it could very well just be immature and just now developed enough to fully spike and flower. Keep watching it though.
