I have one of these seedlings in a pot. I didn't even know what it was until I did a google and found lyself here. So it's in the vanda family.
Should I remove the plant from the pot where it is growing and put it into a hanging basket? Any medium?

I bought one in a pot with a bark mix. I decided to put it in a wood basket. What a shock when I unpotted it. The roots were all wrapped in a circle inside the pot and most of them were quite dark, and flat. None of my vanda roots are flat like that. Now I'm trying to nurse it back to health. I soak it every day for about 1/2 hour but it hasn't changed the appearence of the roots.
I might be too impatient, it's only been about two weeks. No way will I keep a vandacious plant it a pot.
Cross your fingers that it will come around again.

OK, so I'll remove it from the pot and use a basket. I'll add some fern in there with a bit of cocohusk. Don't want those roots to rot in the pot.

She sure is beautiful. I have a Rhyncostylis Rotusa (white with pink lip) that bloomed earlier with one spike but only 6-8 flowers. I sure hope mine grows up to be a "big girl" like yours. I inherited two, but one basket is rotting out...glad you told me not to distrub the roots...do I just put into a larger basket? What about Fert.? My roots looked so dried out that I started to water like my vandas (daily) and they are doing much better. Maybe I should cut back?

Hi Posey! Something you said earlier in the post caught my attention about how you've gotten a flask before of rhynchostylis gigantea seedlings?? I am in a bit of a pickle and need to get my hands on a flask of preferably the red variety but I really just would like to know where and how you're getting your flasks of rhynchostylis? You're the closest I've come to seeing a post thus far about it. Please lmk and thank you in advance for any info! BTW, your rhyncho is stunning!!!

Strange happenings
This morning I get this email about my thread on orchidboard. Not recalling any such thread I found out that it goes back to 2008 when I found commentary on Rhynchostylis gigantea 'alba' here. Those were my very early orchid days and I had no idea as to what I had. (I took over someone else's orchid collection in 2004 when they moved but Í didn't know a cattleya from a phal.) Anyway, it took a while for me to learn and hundreds of killings later I still have that plant and it is now finally happy. Now How do I post a picture here? Still have those same size limitations I see.

Wow, I bet you were puzzled as to what on earth your email was referencing! Lol. Floridians seem to always have the best luck with orchids how old would you say your rhyncho is? Has it been in the same basket since you acquired it? Has it grown much? Sorry to seem so nosey, I just really love these plants and wanna learn as much about them!
