Is my Vanda in need of help? healthy root? 3plants N one? Female
Default Is my Vanda in need of help? healthy root? 3plants N one?

Good evening Orchid lovers!
I have some questions re: this vanda that I bought from a grower. It looks like it has it's original long stem/1st plant. Then it made a baby on the bottom then another on the top which is has been in bloom for about a month. I don't know how many years it is. My concern is some of the roots are very dry and brown. The main original plant leaves have a type of coating on them. (Hopefully my pictures show up, so you can see.) I've been reading about Vandas. And the majority rule is not to cut anything until spring. But if the middle (1st) plant is not healthy, than I'd like to cut the bad off now. I welcome anyone's advice. Thanks so much. Pictures are on the way,if the site allows

I've tried a few times to upload pictures. IT sends a message to contact administration. Then when I sent that email it says, post not available 😟

vanda roots should not be dry and brown for the most part. they should be covered by white vellum with a nice green or sometimes reddish growing tip. Its not saying the brown roots wont start to recover and sprout out some green and that will need some moisture and constant humidity. Lots of water its needing and misting isnt going to be enough you need to dunk it and let it soak up some juice.

Are you trying to post pix using links to a hosting site, or uploading directly to your post?

Have you looked at the thread I linked to?

WhiteRabbit- I've tried 2 more times today. I did read the link. This is the error message. "Could not be posted because a security token is missing "

What web browser are you using? Who's your internet provider?

Meanwhile, you could try uploading your pix to an image hosting/sharing site, and then post the link.

BrightHouse..and Google Chrome.I'm using my phone. I guess the real question is what is everyone opinion on cutting Vanda roots in general? If they are obviously beyond help? Should I ask that in a different post. Thanks. You've been very helpful 😊

If the roots seem dry and brown (rather than rotted), I'd leave them.
Are the roots firm, or hard?
I have an Ascocentrum that had what appeared to be dead roots - hard and brown - but they started new growth, so they may not be dead of they aren't completely shriveled.

I know it's a bit late to help on this, but the "security token is missing" error often means the image is too big, either too many pixels or too big a file size.

When You try and upload pictures the bottom of the screen tells you the maximum file sizes and you might need to reduce the picture to match those.
