Question. Vanda javiare Male
Default Question. Vanda javiare

Hello,
Question... Regarding light levels... I have a large seedling of Vanda javiare, and it is is growing under metal halide light. It grows beside my dendrobiums in a pot of lava stones, and is growing slowly with very narrow compact leafs. What kind of light is best for non mature Vanda plants? Also there is little information on temperature requirements... I grow mine warm.

Default

Plant blooms from spring to summer with several 6 cm white flowers with reddish brown lip.
This is endemic from the forests of the Philippines usually near water in the island of Luzon at elevations of 1200 meters.

Trust your instincts....what you are doing is right....if your Dendrobium is thriving then that Vanda seedling will survive. After a year you need to increase the level of light for the Vanda by gradually exposing it to direct light outdoors starting under a shade....just take note mature Vanda light will burn your Dendrobium....give it Baker's culture for Vandas =they don't need rest so fertilizer and watering all year round=it needs warmth 80F to 90F make sure it doesn't go under 60F....Vancouver have high humidity that Vandas love....Good Luck!
