Need help for high food vanda
Default Need help for high food vanda

Hi everyone,

My vanda's foot is too high. It looks so ugly and unhealthy. I want to cut the foot as close to the lowest leaf as possible. However, there is no root near the lowest leaf so that I'm afraid that the vanda cannot survive after the cut. Please help me to solve this problem. It would be great if you can provide some visual aid for your tips. Thank you in advance!

You need to make sure there is root on the lower leaf otherwise it will be hard to survive. I read somewhere that, that's how you propagate more vanda. The lower portion with roots will send out keiki after you cut it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you for your comment. It's really the way to propagate more vanda. The lower portion will bud to form a new plant.

However, the most important thing now is to encourage the root at lower leaf. I don't know how to do that. That's the problem.

Have you try misting just below the leaf and maybe apply rooting hormone.

Your vanda looks like a strap leaf type. Most strap leaf types grow roots at the bottom area only so dividing is not really an option.
