You were right about that ones roots. They were not in good shape at all and I didn't even realize it! I cut off all of the black parts which didn't have any green inside.

This is what is left:

I have bought vandas at a home depot recently and I tried putting one in a vase and the roots started rotting. I think it was having a hard time adjusting to the constant moisture that gets locked into the vase so out of the vase it went. four of my newly acquired vandas are blooming again and I did not expect them to re-bloom this quick! If you stick with very bright light, daily watering and fertilizing, that vanda can bloom within a month or two.

Hi hanzy, I think that is what happened to my biggest Vanda. The roots couldn't handle the constant moisture and they were starting to rot. I put the Vanda outside with its roots hanging free. I will water and fertilize it daily.

I really need a greenhouse or some type of shade house for my outdoor orchids. They look so hodge podge lol.

my vandas are outside my fire escape and so are my other plants. I have yet to come up with a plan when it gets colder. I might need to get a new plant stand and t5's. Yup space is always a problem for indoor growing folks!

I have an indoor stand and a T5HO light fixture (4 foot long, 6 bulbs) but it's not very humid in my house and its very cold so I feel like the Vandas would do better outside in the summer air for the next few months. Then I will bring them in for the winter.

I have them all inside now and the 8 little ones take a trip to the sink every other day. The little vandas are all just slowly getting bigger, but no flower spikes or substantial growth yet.

My large vanda has the roots free hanging and I try to water it briefly every morning. The large vanda is starting to poke out new roots in multiple places, so that is very encouraging! I will post some pictures of the growth tomorrow. =)

Glad to hear they are doing well. I just bought several vanda babies they are small! Any advice you could give..! I took them out of baskets and put them in pots with a little media. I have no idea how long until my small ones bloom maybe 3 years.

I am raising some vandas from seedlings and I just put them in clay pots. They are doing great. They seem to grow really fast, especially the roots. Not sure when they will flower but they are fun to raise.

that dry dead spanish moss is going to rot and leave you a big mess..spanish moss is fine as long is its alive and not dead dried moss from the hobby lobby. Dried spanish moss is decorative and adds ZERO to the plant.

The roots did not rot bec they couldnt take the water. Vanda roots can take tons of water. The roots got rotten bec the plant cant use the water you gave it bec of three factors light, heat, and humidity were too low. Vandas are waterhogs outdoors in the sun heat humidity. Mine have been down to too cold temps over the past few years and they do much better outside than inside for sure.

Reminder if a vanda looks like it needs water, You chould have waterd it yesterday
