Aerides multiflora - Orchid Board

These orchid plants are found growing in the forest of Assam, Bangladesh, Eastern Himalayas, India, Nepal, western Himalayas, Andaman Islands, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam
Plant blooms from spring to summer with up to fifty 2.5 cm wide flowers. Flowers are fragrant like raspberries.
I inherited this hanging in a plastic basket and give it bright to full sunlight and cool to warm temperatures out on the fire escape….the basket is in a bed of coconut fiber while I anchored the main root and sprinkled some medium media mix and let the roots hang free. Since it is hanging, I keep the roots watered frequently in the hot summer months but in winter it gets no fertilizer and watered only once a week.
I feed it k-lite and seaweed mix weekly weakly.
I have seen spikes of this orchid plant two feet long, with three and four branches on each spike. It is a profuse bloomer, and has been exhibited in competition with from thirty to forty spikes. It grows from two to three feet high, and makes one of the finest plants for exhibition, continuing in blossom three to four weeks.

That is very lovely Bud.
I was gifted a keiki of Aerides odorata at my last society meeting by one of my favorite senior members. I previously knew nothing about this genus but after a bit of study have deduced that I can basically give it the same treatment as my other vandaceous orchids and it should be happy. Is that about right? Any little tips are always appreciated

I wish I could be of help but we are in different time zones and all my plants get to go indoors in my apartment during winter.... your instincts are right=you follow the Vanda culture and you will never go wrong

It depends upon how you grow your other Vandaceous plants. In general:

While Vandas can tolerate full sun after hardening in light shade (and with daily watering/sprayings), most Aerides prefer at least a light shade. I grow mine with a spaghnum/bark mix in the basket, under light similar to Cattleyas, but with more frequent watering as Aerides should not go dry between waterings.
