I wasn't expecting to find anything but phals in that HD cause they never had anything but phals when it comes to orchids so I was really surprised to see the hanging vandas. They were cheap too for a vanda and healthy as well with fat and robust roots! It only cost $35. I went back there yesterday and they haven't sold any but the one I had bought cause people don't really know what kind of plant it is other than it is beautiful and they think it's too expensive cause a lady asked me how to care for it cause she bought some soil!! lol I told her everything about it and she was surprised when I said it flowers twice a year because she thinks it costs too much for a plant that would only flower twice a year lol

What is a bag baby? lh

I am glad they are selling Vandas at Home Depot. It means that their source has a wide variety of orchids to sell.

all the vandas that i've seen being sold in flower shops and the one in home depot are from silver vase. I read about them and they have a farm and they also advertise the blue dyed phals and vandas in vases.

I just recently took a trip to Naples Florida and dropped into a HD just to see what they had. Found that their selections are far greater than ours in Central Florida (Tampa Bay area). They had all kinds of Vanda's, Miltonia's, Oncidiums, slippers, etc.

I walked out with 3 Vanda's. There's something seriously wrong with me.

I had just made the statement the day before that I wasn't buying any more for the rest of the summer.

Apparently, I wasn't listening.....

Most of the large Vandas (incl those formerly known as Ascocendas) have 40-75% sanderiana in the background. The only exception to this are the blue hybrids, which typically have Vanda coerulea as the majority ancestor (30-60%), but usually also a dose of sanderiana.

At $35 prices were reasonable. Our local HD has only had Vandas once, and price was $45 each.

I think their prices depends on the source. Sometimes you find a really good variety without a name but you have an idea of what it is and being sold for that price and when you look online for the same thing it costs the same or a little bit more plus the shipping. For most people who would find the plant nice would probably be turned off with the price cause I saw a lot of people looking at the vandas when I was there but they all commented about the price and put it back lol
