I am not sure. Some of my vanda seedlings would get pigment in some leaves, but not the others. Once the sun started changing its intensity the pink was no longer present. For now I would just watch it. Please, keep us updated.

You don't have to worry about anything. Its normal with Aed. multiflora to get red flush and/or spots, when its expose to too much light; the same way Cattleyas does. =)

As for the wrinkle, it just dehydration from heat. Its normal for the lower leaf, or the leaf that received the most light tobe slight wringle. since multiflora has such as thick succulent leaf, you will always going to get some leaf that going to get slight wringle.

Actually a red pigmentation indicates a lack of nutrients, on the other hand a purple pigment in the leaves just means that the plant is getting the highest amount of light without it being too intense that it burns the leaves.
If it is a red pigmentation it means it needs a little calcium and magnesium added to it when watering.

Update: That one leaf is as withered and red/purple as ever, but the plant is producing two new leaves So I guess that's good. All of the other leaves still seem fine.

I believe it's a magnesium deficiency. Vanda's will exhibit a burgundy color like that when they are deficient of this element. If it were mites, you'd likely see the same symptoms on other leaves as well. Since Mg. is a "transportable" element, and since it's deficient, you will begin to see the signs in one...then two...then three leaves...on and on.

I also noticed that you have some drought stress as evidenced by the wrinkling of the leaf.

Vanda's CAN take full sun but in order to do so, should be watered two, sometimes three times per day. Not exactly your ideal situation. Cut back on the sun for this young guy....making it only morning sun or late afternoon sun and soak him in a bucket for about 30 minutes each day. Use Epsom salts at one Tbsp. per gallon. This will go away.

Thank you for the info!

It is still in the sphagnum moss that it came with. It stays damp for about a week, maybe less. Do you think that soaking it each day might rot the roots? I was previously wondering if I should repot it into a basket. I recently came across a little strawberry basket that might work well.

How often should I soak it with the Epsom salts?
