Amen to the "little sun in the winter".
Everything I do with this plant is probably counter-intuitive to most Ascda. growers but they work for me. The plant is pot grown in coarse bark on the top shelf of a bakers rack in a south facing window measuring about 4' x 5'. I try to give it enough sun to bronze the leaves just short of scorching. It gets watered about twice/wk in summer, once/wk winter. Water is R/O.
I use several fertilizers applied at manufactures full strength recommendations (generally 1tsp/G). I generally fertilize every other week in summer, once a month in winter and only apply 30-10-10 in the sunny(er) months .
It doesn't get a rest period and my temps run 58°F nights/ 70° days in winter to 82-84° days in summer (hopefully not for very long, it's an old non-AC farmhouse). Air circulation is supplied by a ceiling fan.
Like I said, none standard but it works for me. I have two Ascda. Princess Mikasa 'Sapphire' in spike as well.
Hope this helps!
