Vanda Coerulea
Got this from hausermanns and they sent me one in bud! It's suppose to have four flowers but only one made it. It's a very young plant and it's the first flowering and the change in environment attributed to the other buds not developing and the one that bloomed is very small too. about 2 1/2" across. The plant is 10" tall potted in a 4" pot. Will repot as soon as the bloom is done. It's not the wild form but I'm very pleased because the color is very strong. It could be a first generation line bred judging from the size it bloomed and the formation of the leaves.

Lovely flower. Give it a week more to fully open and you will see it flatten and get bigger. The colors will be more vivid on the next blooming cycle almost neon blue.

thanks bud! i admire your vandas and how you grow them. I also live in the east coast and I started putting them on the rooftop of my apartment and they get direct sun most of the day they seem to be fine but one of my cattleya had some sunburn and had to move it in the shade. The flower looks like a deep neon violet blue. hope next blooming cycle would be a show!

gradually wean those plants to direct sun....if by mid summer it gets heatwaves you need to shade them (Mokaras and some Vanda specie can stand direct sunlight=but other hybrids especially with coerulea parentage will need cooler culture)....now you know you don't put Cattleyas in direct sun....

Very nice,
First blooms can be different than when the plants are mature. I agree with Bud that it will likely flatten and get larger in the days to come. I was amazed how much my Vanda Sansai Blue did that. It has a fair bit of coerulea in it.
