My new vanda hybrid seed pod Male
Default My new vanda hybrid seed pod

I crossed a Rhynchodenia Magic Wand and a Vanda Somsri Gold on the 21st feb, and got a seed pod on the Vanda Somsri Gold !!!

Here's the parents: Rhynchodenia Magic Wand

Vanda Somsri Gold:

Questions:
1. I took the pollen from the Magic Wand, so is that the pollen parent?
The pod is formed on the vanda somsri gold, so is that the seed parent?

2. If i want to register the new hybrid, how do i go about it?
Do i have to record all the dates of the pollination, pod forming, flasking and hardening, as well as when the flower on the hybrid first flower? What other things do i have to do?

3. When can i name the hybrid? When it flowers for the first time?

4. How exactly do i register the hybrid? Just go to the The International Orchid Register ?

5. Since this is a Rhynchodenia Magic Wand (Parents are Rhynchostylis coelestis x Seidenfadenia mitrata) cross with a Vanda Somsri Gold (parents are Vanda Nopporn Gold x Vanda Rasri Gold), what will be the new Genus?

6. Anybody knows how long it will take for the pod to ripen?

7. From seeds to flask to flowering, how long will that take for the new hybrid?

Exciting time for me, this is the first time i am doing this.

Lowsutongara [Lwt.] (syn. Ronnyara or Rnya.)

I would estimate at least 4 years

Vanda seed capsules can take up to twenty months; but will you sow dry seed or green capsule?
And from seed to a blooming plant; could take up to seven years.

I know vandas take a long time, and i hope to be able to bring this hybrid to the world. Since i am a novice, i don't really know what is sow dry seed and green capsule. I will likely take the seed pod (when it is ripe) to a nursery and get them to flask it for me.

You just might be able to find a student at your local Agricultural University, who could do it for you.

But just keep in mind there is no guarantee; that the capsule will make it to maturity or that the seeds will be even viable at time of maturity. This is just one of many problems that can accrue when working with seeds.
