I have two Vandas that bloom twice a year and are my favorites. One is a Sansiiu Blue and the other is a noid pink one. My problem is they are getting too big for me. What can I do?
The only option I know of, is to top them. That means cutting the main stem in an area where you leave three or four good size roots above the cut, on the plant. You can also keep the bottom part and it may produce some keikies. Personally I prefer to keep my vandas large. They can take up a lot of space though.
Thanks for quick reply. I was afraid this would be the answer. I grow these in my dining room window and it's getting kind of crowded. The highest roots On them won't make it much shorter so I guess I'll just love them the way they are. Thanks again.
Yes they are about 3 ft. Tall. It isn't a problem when I have them outside in the summer, but my dining room window is getting crowded. I may have too many others there too. Thanks for the reply.
I've heard of a good way to top them and gives higher success rate of growing a keikei.
Stake the plant well and secure the stem at the top and bottom of where you want to cut.
Cut (with a clean, new razor blade) half way but leave stalk intact and grow it for another season. This will help the chances of getting a keikei
Thanks for the info. I may try this on the pink one first as it is one I've had the longest and it was very inexpensive. The hard part I think will be to secure the top and bottom. My Vandas are in open baskets with only some charcoal so they are hard to stake, but I will give it a shot. Thanks again.
Hello everyone. I also have a vanda that is big and beautiful. My first actually. How big can they grow? my vandal is currently about 2 ft tall roots not included. thanks
