Pinky = Neofinetia falcata x Rhynchostylis gigantea. I have 3 clones now:

White w purple splotches, presumably from Rhy gigantea 'Plai'.
Solid purple, presumably from Rhy gigantea red form.
Pale yellow with a few light purple specks on the lip.

Does anyone have any idea where this last color combination comes from?

First is the 'Starry Night' clone, which is in wide distribution.

The red clone is less common, though I have seen a few on Ebay; there was no clonal name on this plant.

I do not have a photo of the yellow clone, as I let the vendor keep it for use in one more show. I should get the plant in a couple of weeks.

I love starry night and have been thinking about getting this one. Would you mind telling me what your culture is like for it?

Both of these are truly lovely. If you get a name on the red, I'd like to know it too so I can keep an eye out for it.

You should post this in the neofinetia sub-forum. The folks there will know more, as these are neofinetia hybrids and they are wonderfully obsessed with the species.

Wasn't sure whether the Neo sub-forum was restricted to the species only. If Neo hybrids are allowed in, I have plenty to show/talk about.

Yeah, I believe the forum's subtext reads "neofinetia and its hybrids." I've seen pics of neostylis posted there.

Neo has lots of variations and yellow flower is one of them. Maybe that is where the yellow came from?
Just my wild guess.

Now, I wonder how my pinky will turn out to be!

I have finally received the unusual Pinky. It has two spikes:

The fresh flowers are yellow/pale green.

The older flowers fade to a creamy white.

I've got the common Piky 'Starry Night' and I grow mine mounted on cork, which is they way it came from Cal-Orchids. When it is outside, it's very happy, but I struggled with keeping the humidity in the winter until I put it in a clear plastic bin to hold a bit more humid around the roots. That did the trick and it's blooming nicely now.

Mine too came mounted, and in bud, which I busted due to lazy watering.

It is in spike again since forever ago. I've been dunking the whole thing everyday at least once, but I've never seen anything that progress this slow. at least three months and still stuck in the leaves.

better be pretty. hahahaha

I plant to take it off the mount and pot it up. It takes so much of me taking care of just one little plant and I'm so tired of it. no flowers for nearly two years and still in my collection, can you believe it? lol
