ok thanks. would a hybrid require different care? I've added some more pics if you could show me what part is the spur, I'm not really sure? The first pic is of the prior years bloom and the closest one I could find, the following four are from a few months ago.

I usually water my sandies once a day and they stay outdoors year round. I have several sandie hybrids too and I give them same care with pure sandies. I live in the Philippines where they're endemic.

That is not a spur on picture #3 its a stem semi petal. Its light green. The plant is a sanderiana specie; not a hybrid.

Nice flowers. I'm still waiting on my plant to flower. I think my climate is similar to yours. The plant I have was labelled 3n I can only assume this means it is a triploid plant? resulting from a tetraploid cross with a diploid?

Take a closer look at the 5th pic on the leftmost bloom. True specie sandie doesnt have any spur behind labellum.

Sorry for jumping in. Lovely flower.
You can submit a picture showing back of an individual flower to clear the issue of spur....or check and report here.
Spur is a little narrow pouch on the back of flower(On vandas, I think it is on the back of that little 'lip', usually seen when pics taken from side). It is separate from the colored 'stem' and it does not attach to rest of the plant. Often, it contains nectar. If you check the flower you will know if it has a spur and that will distinguish species from Hybrid.
By the way many flowers (orchid and non orchid) have spurs which can be small or huge depending on type of plant.
I do not think there is any significant difference in care either way,only that it may be common /rare depending on the presence or absence of spur.....but others may disagree and I am no expert.

Right plumania, 'spur' contains nectar and a tail like extention as in the Neophinetia falcata or the Angraecum sesquipedale but some Vandacious plants have a pointy extention at the back of the flower when they are just opening as buds and loses it as the flowers flatten=maybe it is a spur like characteristic that they lost in variation of species....and sanderiana doesn't have that....
@eri789=I do not see anything on the flowers maybe because of its angle shots....so maybe if you can provide us the side view of the flower at close-up shot so we can be able to really see what makaldoy is saying?
