My first thought was the same as Christiano's, had the plant been grown upside down. Rhyncho. retusa forms spikes that are very similar to coelestis but are more cylindrical and always pendulous. Vegetative growth is nearly identical so this is a great post and question. Your spike is at least 6cm, perfectly cylindrical and pendulous. I'm quite sure it's retusa, a really divine hot grower.

When you say that the spikes are more cylindrical, what are the coelestis Spikes like? Flatter or?

Yes, flatter with more bulbous protuberances. There's a distinct possibility yours may be a cross between the two, only half the tag fell off.  Some of this cross came out of Thailand earlier this year. To be honest I've never bloomed a retusa, only coelestis. |

Sure, I might be wrong  . I don't know about other vandas but for the Rhyn. specifically, it seems to me coelestis always has erect spikes. Rarely, some Rhyn. gigantea may also have upward spikes but the angle is not as sharp coelestis. I would love to see photos showing Rhyn. coelestis has downward spikes  . |

Update: the spikes ended up facing upwards, kind on interesting, they erect from the stem and slowly straighten out and face upward just before they open. I'll update pics tomorrow as they will be just opened.
