V. Prao Sky blue Reliable

Yeah, beautiful flower. I think the intense blue Vanda are one of the prettiest of all flowers. The plant looks really healthy too! Nice big wide green leaves.
I bought this clone two times this Summer. Both times they died from crown rot. First time was one week after purchase and second one was a month after I bought it. None of my other Vanda have done that. Anyone else have this problem?

That's unfortunate. Seems like you got water in the crown that settled overnight. You should try again though. Mine loves where it's at, growing like crazy! It had a dbl spike just a month ago. I had a lot of rain the other day for two weeks, and my V. tessellata got rot in the crown and i pulled out the leaves when i came back from my travels....it sent out keikis though.

That surprises me. Vanda's come from really wet areas. Surely they in the wild they experience water in the crown for days. I probably have 15 Vanda and I haven't experienced this with any other. But your plant is very beautiful. It's tempting to try a third time.

Well actually in the wild vandas don't grow upright iike we have them growing in baskets. They grow sideways and upwards so water doesn't settle in its crown to the extent where it will cause rotting. Plus rotting is caused by water settling, which is hard to do in monsoon season. You should try again and be more aware to turn over plants that have been in rain for a number of days.

What a beautiful Vanda! I'm not sure how well they'll do here, but Andy's orchids said that V. coerulea grows well outdoors here, so I got one to try. Plus, that was one I'd always wanted when I was told it was too hot to grow them (when I lived in Houston). If I'm successful with this one, I'll probably try others of the cooler growing types, or hybrids with coerulea. Also, the coeruleas blooming at Andy's had such huge flowers on such tiny plants! I'd never imagined the plants were so small from having only looked at photos before.
