Okay I read througg several of these but am not sure if I missed what I am looking for or not. My two smaller ones are growing quite merrily in a wood slat box hanging...I really dont want to move them from that while their very actively growing roots left and right.

Mine are in wooden baskets with large chunks of lava rock. They are on south facing windowsills.

I try to spray them good every 2-3 days and soak them every week. They do all right even with my dryer than normal conditions.
I think my Vandas are happy as long as they have humidity in their root zones. The lava rock has just enough residual moisture for that.
