Gastrochilus japonicus in bloom

This miniature orchid are found growing on pine trees in the mountain forest of Japan and Taiwan at elevations of 500 to 2000 meters. I got this a couple of years ago when I read about the sticky on this Board’s thread and was told it was a blooming sized plant and yet it just bloomed on me just this week.
It’s the right timing for this orchid that blooms in the fall, this plant gave me four one and a half inches wide flowers.
This is in a small but heavy glass on a samurai style of moss wrapping and I give it moderate shade on the east facing bathroom window with intermediate to cool temperatures. I liberally watered this during its growing season which is early spring and summer; I will reduce watering after flowering to every 10 days interval until late winter. I have first grown this in tree fern fibers for a year then medium fir bark but I just decided once and for all to give it the samurai style in sphagnum moss since it is a native of Japan.
I feed it weekly weakly K-Lite fertilizer with seaweed mix.

yes, it is sweet, with a light citrusy floral fragrance.

How cute and colorful flowers too! This plant is just my size, since I'm pressed for space. I'm not going to get one though, I'm scared, because I've managed to kill my sedirea japonica. For now I'm going to enjoy pictures of other peoples tiny plants.

Thank You for your kind remarks....this is not only cute and colorful, it is also fragrant and very easy to grow....just follow the culture and there is a sticky of members who grow this plant as their project a couple of years ago. That is how I managed to get one of these orchids since I already have infos on how to grow this. You have to get yourself a Sedirea and a Gastrochilus....it is ideal for your windowsill and grow zone.

Okay Bud, you've talked me into it, the fragrance was the deciding factor! I will pass on the Sedirea for now, but will buy one again IF I can make the Gastrochilus happy. Guess I'll better start reading up on the Project plant.
