Like others said, V. coerulea is pretty easily obtained through modern methods of propagation. From what I understand this species was brought to the brink of extinction shortly after 1900 in Europe when greenhouses were filled with wild collected plants.

This plant came from Andy's Orchids in California in 2007. They use a lot of grape wood because it's more easily obtained and sustainable than cork. In the humid climate of Miami, grape wood attracts fungus but this one has done well, I suppose because it has a long drying period in winter and most of the roots are aerial.
Bud, I love the wild form. The more exaggerated the lateral sepals the better. Please post pics when she blooms! For those with new plants, you should get flowers soon. Mine bloomed the second year I had it on a small plant. It's hard to describe how pretty they are in real life.
