Thanks, AussieVanda! That helps, as this is my first vanda and I have never seen a flower spike on this type. I guess a root is good too.

How big or old is your plant?

I'm not sure how old. It looks to have spike about 3 leaves lower than this "bump", and it is about 1 1/2 feet from top to its lowest leaf.

I put in a vote for root as well. My limited experience is that, like the picture posted by AussieVanda, spikes emerges at the stem from the 'middle' of the leaf, not from the 'side'. Eeeeer... what a lousy explanation. But anyways! Roots are good and your vanda looks super healthy and happy! Only thing is that you could perhaps still give it even a bit more light. Light limegreen, even with a hint of yellow is fine with these ones. Or a hint of purple freckles that indicate that it receives max amount of light.
