Joy, this is my opinion (I know everyone has a differing opinion and I respect that, plus i'm a hobby grower and not an expert) but this is what works for me.
Light - The vandas need high light. Mine grow in the garden but i live in the tropics so this could be a problem for you.
Food - when the vanda's have their adult roots or close to it, I see no reason to persist with higher "N" fertilisers to maintain high root growth. Once a month or even two i will use a bio fertiliser like fish/seaweed but I almost exclusively use bloom booster at least once a week, even if it's not flowering. The ratio's I am currently using are 15, 5 and 24. The brand I am using is manutec, but I am not sure if you can get that particulalr one in the states. I like to vary products anyway between brands but always a synthetic bloom booster. I still have great root growth plus i always get constant blooms out of my vandas.
