Default Aerides Odorata

What can I say, just a gorgeous sight; just a quick glance at these graceful cascading pendant flowers its easy to see why many love this species. The fragrance is phenomenal! Like a lemon pie! Upon closely looking at these flowers you can see why one might love them; they are unusual, colourful dependent on the variety and while they are not large they certainly are plentiful.
I cut this guy from a larger plant mounted in a tree and threw it on the bench in the shade for a couple weeks to allow it to settle then tied it to a stake and put it in the new start-up garden I am setting up at the base of some palms in my front yard. It gets a significant amount of direct sunlight and even some midday direct sunlight as well, but it does enjoy some lovely occasional shading from the swaying palm leaves. Look at the spur on these guys; lovely. Believe me it was a long wait for those spikes to develop, but worth it. How lucky am I to have it produce a dbl spike within just 2 months of setting & staking it.
Enjoy
