This orchid hybrids was lab created by Pachara Orchids Intertrade Co. LTD established in 1996 in Suphanburi, Thailand.
There is Vanda Pachara Delight 'Red'; Vanda Pachara Delight 'Black'(a dark purple grape color);this pink version and the original hybrid of bluish lavender flowers. They are large flat with vivid colors and the petal tessellations is its signature. They tend to be large tall plants with pencil thick roots and a three year old seedling can already bloom.

I have seen them sold in flower shops enclosed in a tubular plastic vase. These are mass produced and exported all over the world....oh and I saw a pure white version sold en masse in a mall and it can also be ordered online.

What is your setup with the two glass vases? Is that LECA I see? Does this increase the humidity for this Vandas microclimate?

Thank You for the visit.

I drilled the large glass vase at the bottom using a diamond coated drill and filled the vase 1/4 clay pellets ....the deep glass bowl is filled with water to wet the clay thru the two drilled holes but not to wet the roots of the Vanda. The vase holds more moisture in winter since my environment is very dry. In the summer my environment is very humid so I don't bother with water except the weekly fertilizer.

Oh I see! The roots aren't submerged in the LECA, correct? Do they rest on the LECA? I'll have to try this setup!

The top layer LECA is moist so the roots touching it gets the humidity but not wet enough to rot it. Yet through the years some new roots formed have managed to submerge itself down to the water level that it is not rotting it ( this happens only to the new roots; the old ones die out after quite sometime ) =that is the mystery of Semi-Hydroponic method of growing orchids.
