Can anyone who's had firsthand experience with Aerides odorata tell me when its bloom season is supposed to occur? Does it require uniform warmth throughout the year, or does it need a seasonal dip in temperatures to encourage it to flower?
I'm certainly no expert, but Aerides is getting ready to bloom now. I live in Brazil, and we're in late spring, which corresponds with what I've read. Mine has always bloomed without any special treatment, though we don't have enough cold to make cimbidiums bloom regularly. It gets down to 50 degrees for a few weeks here, and sometimes up in the 90s in the summer.
