Yes it is true that cooler temperatures are most conducive to longer lasting flowers, but that also is the case if you have lots of air movement outside as it keeps the plant itself cool. I have found that if you don't have high light when you bring a vanda inside the blooms fade rather quickly as well. That is my observation at least.
