I got a Fitzhart from Santa Barbara Orchids two years ago. It was potted in a 3 inch plastic pot with nothing but 1/4 to 1/2 inch pieces of granite chips. Instead of re-potting, they placed the 3 inch pot in a 5 inch pot and added a few more chips. It is still in the same pot and it has three large blooming size fans and four smaller growths. Each of the larger ones initiated three to five spikes in late winter and, although still green, have made only a tiny amount of growth. Although the buds are still green and I am secretly hoping for flowers, realistically I think it is too late. I dunk my plant in a tub of rain water twice per week and fertilize with Peters Cal/Mag every two weeks at half strength. It gets bright, indirect light and lots of air from the fans. What I am doing seems to grow it well but I think it is too warm here in Florida for flowering.
By the way, several places where I have read about Orchiata advise that it is to be used solely by itself, no additives of any kind and additionally, even though it does not require pre-soaking like other bark, only the outer surface gets moist during watering and consequently dries out very fast. To prevent dessication, the plant must be watered more frequently during the first month.
