Ascda Princess Mikasa: when will it bloom?
Hi everyone,
I received this Ascda Princess Mikasa last year as a gift from my aunt. It was repotted in Spring of 2012 and has been in this pot since then. I water it everyday and I put it outside a couple of months ago where it receives bright light to full sun about all day. You can see the roots are nice and healthy. It was supposed to have been blooming size when I received it, but has failed to bloom as of yet. Can someone please help me out with this? I tempted to set it by the garbage can and see if it will induce it to spike....
Thanks Eddie

I don't have advise for you as I am waiting for my Vanda Manuvadee to bloom, only that I feel your pain. I hope yours puts out a spike very soon!

If its getting plenty of light, should just be a matter of time ... My Acda I had first spiked in fall after being outside in good light all summer.

Orchids can sometimes be like babies...Dr's give you delivery dates but most times they turn up when they are good and ready

What color is yours supposed to be? just curious.
I would say yours would bloom anytime because it looks to me like a blooming size.
I had a white flowering one last summer. It was just a little bigger than yours, I would say about 5 more leaves. It had two spikes, but it also had at least three spent spikes at a lower leaf axils.
So this plant must begin to bloom at a quite young age it seems.
Best luck!

This plant is flowering size if you were in a prime vanda/ascda area. I've seen plants this size with 2+ spikes. Its growing well enough but this one in particular love "lots" of light. My growing conditions are no-where near pefect & it flowers 2 - 3 times a year for me.

I keep reading that these are heavy feeders while in full growth. I only have one but I feed it quite a bit and it is started its 4th leaf and I just see the nub of my first spike since I got it in Feb. It's a hybrid as well with a fair bit of V. coerulea. It gets bright sun and fairly warm temps right now.

Thanks everyone for your replies! I believe it is supposed to be purple when it blooms.

What is the overall spread of the leaves? I can't judge from the size of the pot.
My Princess Mikasa was also reluctant to bloom and after several years with no bloom I was about to get rid of it. It now has a spread of 20" and blooms twice a year. I'm guessing that yours is still a bit small.
Hang in there, yours looks quit healthy and it's well worth the wait!

what I read once (also after purchasing a pachara delight this size) was that although bloom size*, that they wouldn't bloom for me. I put the asterisk because by bloom size they mean in the absolute best conditions (i.e. giant commercial greenhouse) and that unless I can replicate those conditions, id wait 3-5 more years ...still waiting lol
