To everyone who has a 'Red Dragon':
At the last GNYOS I promised Les Kawamoto, that some day I would take this plant to AOS judging. I finally did, and it received a 78 pt HCC/AOS yesterday.

I did not photograph this spike (3rd one this year), but judges counted 125 flowers on spike with branches, and branches on the branches. Flowers are not as large as some other Renanthera hybrids, but they are RED.
Here is photo from a previous blooming.
BTW, I have a seed pod in the lab, using pollen from 'Red Dragon' on my very large flowered Neofinetia falcata. If all goes well, there will be seedlings available in 2-3 years.

I wanted grab one when I last visited Kawamoto, but they were quite expensive. They had a few different sizes and the youngest plants were still quite a bit.
Looking at the fully grown one with so many red flowers, I kept thinking do I want this or not, then I just bought some cattleyas and dendrobiums instead. lol
I would love to have it one day. They get rather big.

Your flowers are really amazing. The branching out of the spikes created a large bouquet of dark red flowers.

you should have acquired a large one, it can hang on your large window and after it blooms it becomes nice and compact once again

I just bought a Red Dragon, as a cutting, and the very next morning it had yellow on the stem and one leaf right in the middle. Now several leaves and more of the stem is yellow. I water it and have put it out of direct sun. I live in Florida so it's warm and humid. Any ideas.

The cutting should have at least a couple of roots. If you got a top cut and there are no roots, then put it in a vase of water until there are roots coming out then and then can you pot it or hang it in a basket.
The yellowing of leaves means that the plant is using energy from the leaves because it is not getting nutrients from the roots.

Thanks for all the great info. I purchased one from Kawamoto as a seedling three years ago. it's been a challenge but with some tips on maintaining humidity it's growing new leaves and roots. Hopefully blooming next year.
