Very cool hybrid. The blooms are really striking. And V. tricolor var. suavis is, in spite of its native habitat on Java, quite tolerant of cool temperatures too. I don't have V. Paki, but my V. tricolor easily takes regular night temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s during the winter. Do the flowers of your plant have any fragrance? I'm interested in learning whether or not any of the V. tricolor scent was passed on to this hybrid. Congratulations on the wonderful blooms.

Nice job. I'm trying my first vanda and it's going well so far. I'm curious how you're growing your vandas in SoCal. Do you have it potted? What media do you use and what's the watering/fertilizer regimen?

Paki has a very nice fragrance! Not over powering like my Miltonopsis, but fresh.
I need to get hold of a V. tricolor var suavis if they can take our winter temps.
Night time temp mostly around 50 down to 48 or so, but consistently so between Nov and April. You think it is ok?
I guess will have to keep it dry

I live in Hollywood so winter nights upper 40s low 50s. I grow this without any winter protection
It came growing in gravel lava rocks in a small plastic pot. But I put the whole thing into a 4 inch clay pot and fill in the gaps with hydroponic clay beads. That way only have to water 2-3 times per week in summer and once a weak in winter.
This Vanda is a companion plant with my Cymbidiums.
I got it at SB orchid estate. They have good plants, but be persistent with phone orders. They aren't very organized and tend not to respond to emails. But always some one to answer the phone during open hours so be persistent, worth your while.

Andrew, one of my two V. tricolor plants came from SBOE. I bought it, in fact, based on their recommendation that it could handle cool winter temperatures. So perhaps you can give them a call (or, better yet, drop in to talk to Wayne) to see if they still carry this species. The fragrance is wonderful. It's not quite as strong as V. tessellata or V. merrillii (to my nose at least), but it's still quite good. And it blooms a couple of times per year for me. The only drawback is that the inflorence isn't very long and the blooms on my plant are frequently crowded. But that's only a minor complaint.
