Default Sedirea japonica var. Nagoran 名護蘭

NAGORAN (Nago orchid) since it was first found in Nago-City of Okinawa Island. It grows on tree trunks or on rocks of humid places. Its habitat is limited to southern part of Japan. Blooming season is late winter to early summer. I give this bright shade at the west facing window. Beautiful colors of Magenta (Pink-Purple) spotting on the lips, Chartreuse (Yellow-Green) inner petal and delicious White/Near White /Cream petals on average form of a typical Sedirea japonica. The fragrance is delightful like a combination of jasmine and oranges noticeable early in the morning.
I water this plant regularly, it requires evenly moist media; I do not let it dry out between watering.
Weekly weakly fertilizer alternated with seaweed mix.
I grow this in the traditional samurai method for I inherited this plant in a 4.5” fancy Neo pot and mahogany Asian wood stand when it was presented to me as a gift.

Wow. I'm not usually into these miniature types but I have become more and more curious about the falcata and how interesting they look when potted. And now looking at these photos of your Japonica, this is another i want to look into. What size are these blooms Bud? What sort of space in the home would you suggest for these specie plants?

Beautiful!

Thanks for the watering info. After killing two of these with too much water, I think I went too far the other way with the one I got last year.

the flowers are fairly small, about an inch, but very fragrant (one of my favorite flower fragrances)

Nagoran is not a variety name, it refers to the entire species.

Thanks for looking!
An inch and a half diameter flowers widest leaf span is seven inches. I elevated this in the middle of the window with a wine box; very space saver plant. This is five years old; what excited me is that it produced three spikes

Thank You, Sonya !

Your grow zone allows this plant to be outdoors. You must have this in your collection once again. This orchid is very you: serene, peaceful and lovely.
Be very observant with the moss....if it is dry its time to water. If it discolors darkly and smells moldy, you need to repot. My fertilizer leaves a residue on the leaves that it alters its smooth texture ...oh well, Id rather feed it than beautify it....

Thanks, Kip !

I knew 'Nagoran' is the Japanese name for the whole species but that is what I have in the tag....
I also got Sedirea Japonica var. FUSAMARU 房丸 and I am searching for the English translation; it is currently in spike and I will post pictures when it opens its blooms.

Thank You, Chase !

I needed the lava rock to contrast the light colored flowers. The whitewashed wall will absorb and will not give me the true colors of the blooms.
The early morning sky always provide me with the correct shade of the flowers.

New World Orchids have several variety including this orchid and they can be ordered online.
Andy's Orchids have this too.
The Japanese town in any major city will have this orchid on their bonsai stores or flower ikebana shops....
If ever you get to Florida, there's a couple of sellers there too.
There is a Japanese seller on Ebay that once in a blue moon one would find it on their listings of bids just search 'Sedirea japonica' and Ebay will show you vendors that sell this orchid.
