True-- as always, supply drives it. I personally could only find chabo through him but maybe your hunting will reveal a cheaper source. the plant i got is wonderful.

It seems there's only 3 major sources in the US for Sedirea japonica and Neofinetia falcata: Seed Engei, New World Orchids (Dr. Glenn Lehr) and Orchids Ltd. (aka orchidweb). Those are great, but are there any others to recommend? And are there any particular ebay sellers that are reliable for good quality?
I just ordered a Neofinetia falcata 'Kara Nishiki' (a tiger stripe) from orchidweb, BTW, to add to my beginner collection of 3 Neo, plus a Sedirea, that I picked up from Seed Engei at the SEPOS show.

I don't know of other vendors who deal almost exclusively with Japanese orchids. Others seem to be one offs.

There is a Japanese Orchids vendor on Ebay who deals with only neos and Sedirea and two others who are trustworthy sellers by the looks of their stars by the thousands already....
I read a fellow member here complaining about 'orchidweb' mailing their plants in flat envelopes.

Hmm, I just noticed now that Al's Orchid Greenhouse (orchidexchange.com) also has Neos in their online catalog, maybe about 20 or so varieties.

At least I haven't killed it yet - got it a little over a year ago.
Do you let yours approach dry? I have read to let these dry in-between waterings, but, since I use skewers - if I am told 'dry', I let it get BONE dry, and it's occurred to me, that in some cases 'dry' may just barely moist ...
I'm with you - I'd rather have blooms than pristine foliage but no blooms

For those looking for one, without breaking the bank, and are just looking for the standard variety - Last summer at a show, I saw Andy's had some very nice ones for around $25 I think ? That was last summer, but never hurts to check with them ..

the reason I am using moss is because I got it in moss....but if you inherited your plant in small bark then you must continue to do so....its just a matter of finding the right watering regimen and the right humidity percentage for the plant in its environment....your area is pretty much like the zone it originally came from so I think it is alright to grow your plant outdoors.
