Be very observant with the moss....if it is dry its time to water. If it discolors darkly and smells moldy, you need to repot. My fertilizer leaves a residue on the leaves that it alters its smooth texture ...oh well, Id rather feed it than beautify it....[COLOR="Silver"]

awww
Yeah - I got one last year, started to look dehydrated after a few months, so I've upped the watering a bit. I potted it into small bark mix, as that's how it was potted when I got it, so I figured it was happy that way ... think I may change it to sphag tho ... At least I haven't killed it yet - got it a little over a year ago.
Do you let yours approach dry? I have read to let these dry in-between waterings, but, since I use skewers - if I am told 'dry', I let it get BONE dry, and it's occurred to me, that in some cases 'dry' may just barely moist ...
I'm with you - I'd rather have blooms than pristine foliage but no blooms

For those looking for one, without breaking the bank, and are just looking for the standard variety - Last summer at a show, I saw Andy's had some very nice ones for around $25 I think ? That was last summer, but never hurts to check with them ..

I just ordered a Neofinetia falcata 'Kara Nishiki' (a tiger stripe) from orchidweb, BTW, to add to my beginner collection of 3 Neo, plus a Sedirea, that I picked up from Seed Engei at the SEPOS show.

I read a fellow member here complaining about 'orchidweb' mailing their plants in flat envelopes.

Hmm, I just noticed now that Al's Orchid Greenhouse (orchidexchange.com) also has Neos in their online catalog, maybe about 20 or so varieties.

the reason I am using moss is because I got it in moss....but if you inherited your plant in small bark then you must continue to do so....its just a matter of finding the right watering regimen and the right humidity percentage for the plant in its environment....your area is pretty much like the zone it originally came from so I think it is alright to grow your plant outdoors.

Bud, you are a terrible influence! After seeing the pictures of your 'Sapphire' I went hunting and now have one on the way from Kawamoto. Before I go hunting again, I'll have to research Sedirea care.

Have you smelled them?? It's allll over once you smell them.
Started out with Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Bluebird' and now I'm after Neofinetia falcata Kinsokei, Shutennou, Darwinara Rainbow Stars, yeah the list keeps getting longer...
I've started looking for Sedirea japonica as well. Haven't smelled one of those yet. Don't care. Getting one.

Whew. Okay, so he does sell things for under $100 sometimes?? That's a relief.
