A word of caution: Vandas hate being moved much outside of their conditions they had during initial spike development. A grow told me that as a rule of thumb, she never sends a plant in spike that has initial bud development. If the spike is brand new and just a nub, she said they'll be fine, but if they've grown a few inches and the first nub is formed it will likely abort.
Honestly you can preserve buds on a new spike just by putting it in a location with not too much sun and good humidity and air circulation. The main thing is reducing the sunlight a bit. Orchids ship domestically usually by 2 day shipping or overnight, and if packed properly and not exposed to extreme temperatures your spike should fine; especially if the root system is robust and healthy.
