Default Rhynchostylis gigantea ‘Lavender Spots’

This is a 6 year old vandaceous foxtail orchid. I have this hanging in a plastic basket on a bed of coconut fiber sprinkled with medium mixture of lava rock, charcoal, bark, sponge rocks and hydroton. I give this plant consistent warm temperature 80F in a south facing windowsill and drench it in the morning and allow it to dry all day. I feed this with a weekly weakly fertilizer alternated with seaweed mix. A summer bloomer but it gave me this winter two arching inflorescences containing waxy flowers which are highly fragrant with the scent of black berries that lasts for more than 4 weeks. I am lucky this specie bloomed twice in a year for me. The roots and leaves are slow to grow but as the years go by; this plant provided me with pencil thick roots and long large leaves. I got these two years ago from Kawamoto Orchids; sellers based in Hawaii.

* this is precisely the reason why I dont like indoor lighted photos....this only happens if the frosty weather outside is dangerous to my plants; we have a very erratic winter weather this year(one week springlike and then the next will be freezingly wet snow)....

Beautiful plant! It's putting on quite a show.

BTW - I appreciate you're including pictures of the entire plant and it's growing details, it is very helpful.

Just gorgeous, Bud. Congrats on the beautiful blooming! I have a few of these in varying shades in bloom now. I love these beauties and picked up one with markings in a deep shade of cranberry at a recent show to add to the collection. Mine have always bloomed in winter, usually spiking Nov/Dec.
