I love the sun kissed coloring of the blooms.…notice the gold and delicate pink shading. This plant can flower several times a year and is a vigorous grower. It has a slight fragrance of talcum powder.
This is endemic to India, Philippines, New Guinea and Indonesia.
Supplemented with oscillating electric fan/ humidifier gives this plant warmth and moisture:
- Winter temperatures at (60F to 70F at night and 70F to 80F at daytime)
- Summer temperatures at (70F to 80F at night and 80F to 90F at daytime)
- Bright shaded sun (south facing windowsill)
Tips:
The plants can be grown from June to September outdoors. Some people living in high humidity areas grow this hanging in a basket.
I water my Vandas under the sink at full throttle faucet until fully drenched or I wet spray the tall big ones until drenched daily. The plant should be allowed to dry all day then repeat the regimen the next morning; but in the warmer months I spray my Vandas soaking wet in the evening as well.
This is on glass vase culture, so I soak it every three days with the vase filled with water for ten minutes. I weekly use Algoflash fertilizer alternated with seaweed mix. Once a month I wash the leaves with the use of a soft sponge, dish soap and liquid cinnamon extract to rule out bugs and pests and to clean the white powdery fertilizer deposits.
I bring the plant indoor on the bright windowsill if in spike to a cooler and temperate environment in order to make the flowers bigger, flatter and with vivid colors.
