One was taken with a flash and one without. It's actually grey with blue tessellations and the middle is blue / purple

I recommend spraying for thrips also just in case. They are also a culprit for causing new buds to just rot and fall off. A monthly insecticide/fungicide spray is always recommended to keep everyone protected.
Lovely blooms; I'm glad you are getting to enjoy some of them

Thanks for the suggestion, I've actually been thinking about that as well. I've noticed ants and small black round things on my flowering oncidiums so I sprayed with pyrethrum + garlic spray, this should be safe as well directly on the vanda flowers I assume?

Yes that should be safe. I have a pure chemical solution that i got to spray my chids and I spray the opened blooms too and it doesnt do any harm.
