I'm excited to see this plant doing well in S/H as I have a Vascostylis Viboon Velvet in a basket too and it's been dragging along for 2 years, blasting buds here and there. Perhaps, I'll try mine in S/H and see if it appreciates it more than my less than optimal spraying. Thank you for posting your awesome blooms!!

Do you have it bare root in a basket? My vandas do very well with sphag and charcoal. It holds some humidity and it is easy to tell when they are dry.

I have some baby ones in baskets in sphag that are in the tops of vases. It does seem to help hold some humidity. Try a little sphag around the roots. It also helps you to know when they are really dry.

As per usual with your Vandas, fabulous! I wish I can grow them like you can My Rhyncostylis that I put in S/H has done nothing for 6 months since I transplanted it. I am giving up hope! Your plants make me so envious!
Good growing.

Thank You, flexdc !!!!
do not be envious, you too can have a healthy happy plant if you set your mind to it....just give your plant the culture it needs and if you have it on S/H....be patient because the old roots will adapt to the new method or might die....but the new roots that forms will be the one to sustain your plant....
spray the roots above the LECA every morning....they might not be getting enough humidity....this orchid is tenacious and will give you beautiful fragrant blooms

Good advise I will give that a try. A new root did start but then it aborted as soon as it hit the LECA! So sad. But the good part is all the old roots are still green. The plant isn't getting worse, just not getting better. Kind of just hanging out not doing a thing. So LAZY! LOL.

Vascostylis Viboon Velvet
Bud and Houston. Oh, I have a GH (just wish it was bigger, sound familiar?) I'm going through the annual ritual of cleaning it out to get ready for cold weather. I have plants other than orchids so they need shelter, too.
I looked at my database and, unfortunately, did not record where I bought my plant. The label does not indicate the seller either.
Although my plant is not as big as Bud's, the flowers are beautiful and I look forward to next year's efforts.

How cold do you think Vascostylis can take?

flexdc....this can take down to 55F....but 45 down its going to wither and die....you will know if Vandacious is cold if the roots shrivel and the leaves yellow and dry out....if you let it out on a frosty night even just overnight it will turn to watery mush
