These orchids take the same care are vandas. They like high light, similar to catts, and they like to dry out quickly. Actually, dendrobium aren't all that different in the care. They like good humidity and temperatures between 50 and 80.

I don't have any Rhynchostylis, but I have read that they can tolerate much lower light because of the broadness of the leaves. And they like lots of water, but more air circulation because they are more fungus prone. But all of that may be splitting hairs if you have generally good Vanda culture already.

I agree. I once was in a greenhouse that had a lot of them in bloom. The leaves looked terrible, and I have read that it is often the case with rhycho. They can be more prone. I am considering getting one myself but since they only bloom once a year [I think] I would rather get one of the hybrids that bloom more often, like vasco.

I have one and I had it where it got a lot of light and the leaves were a light green, now I have it where it receives less light and the leaves are a darker green. I grow it in the same conditions as my Vandas and it seem to thrive even with less light. I know it only blooms once a year but the fragrance was enough to convince me to get one. Plus when they are big they can have multiple bloom stalks for a spectacular show.

They are very slow to grow roots and leaves(put it in a basket so you wont be disturbing the roots ever)....I have a 4 year old alba that just bloomed for me; a 3 yr old spotted and a 5 year old orange that is expected to spike anytime=all of them are outdoors this warmer months and gets inside a south facing window in the winter
it needs warmth....bright light....it likes to feed and drink a lot(but let it dry between waterings)

Just thought I'd point out that my previous comments don't apply to Rhy coelestis, which take standard Vanda culture.

Jack dont pot it...put it on a wooden basket lined with coconut fiber arrange the roots well on the bed and sprinkle some bark, charcoal, lava rock and some clay chips...then hang it.
Unless potting is your only alternative then put it on coarse mix to let the roots breathe

*do you see moss or mold on the roots?
algae and molds can be dealt with if you spray the area with hydrogen peroxide or brown listerine ....if it is really becoming a pest then resort to the big guns=physan20
