Very nice! Yes, I had one and absolutely loved it. Mine succumbed to black rot last autumn along with several other orchids. It was growing like crazy and I was so proud. I really hate black rot. Sigh.

June Bug and Wenn Dee,
My plant is 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 inches and it has fourteen leaves. The dried flower stems indicate that it bloomed when it was half that size. I have only had it for about a year. I drowned the last one in the fish pond. It seems to like the hot humid climate that we have. I mist it every day and fertilize every couple of weeks. Light is sufficient to bloom standard Cattleyas. Wenn Dee, I suspect that your plant may not be a sufficient size yet to bloom. Maybe next year since it seems that they only bloom during the summer.

Thanks but mine has bloomed. It came to me in bloom but I have never gotten it to bloom myself. I got it in 2007! It grows lots of leaves but it also shed quite a few a while back. I did re-mount it earlier in the spring because it wasn't hooked to its mount anyway and it's done really well since. It has grown lots of new roots and it is now attatched to the mount with its roots. It has also been growing leaf after leaf but like I said it lost quite a few last winter. I'm not sure what I did to make it do that. It gets high light and has a purple tint to the leaves. Do they need a winter rest? Thanks for the help! I want mine to bloom. It's a cute little thing out of bloom too though but flowers make things so much better!

I experienced that big problem recently. I have been growing orchids for many years and have been fortunate to have never had black rot until recently when we had a solid week of down-pouring rain. I grow in a greenhouse for the most part but I like to vacation some orchids outdoors for the summer. I should have had the hindsight to spray for fungus but didn't and a dozen large plants were damaged. Fortunately, I halted the infection with a strong fungicide when I first noticed the problem but there was still major damage.

I have a similar problem in that it grows new leaves but lower ones drop off. I have a new growth with new leaves at the base of the main growth and again the lower leaves drop off. It also seems the roots are not growing much. Any idea what may cause this?

Wonderful. I've always wanted to try one. You've fueled the fire.

Thank you Picotee and Thankshila Smith. They are really quite easy to grow. The only problem I have is losing it in the greenhouse because it is so small.
