So I would like to know if anyone here has any real experience INDUCING keikis on vandaceous orchids. Obviously genetics plays a huge role, if not the largest role, so we're talking environmental variables only. Hormones like keiki paste, homemade recipes, more light, less light, more humidity? Bring it!
I read an interesting method in a book which isn't strictly for making keikes but it assists in topping a vanda and getting the bottom to sprout again:
Start after flowering and before growth season.
Stake the vanda and tie it firmly above and below the point that your wanting to cut.
Get a sharp clean razor blade and cut at a 45 degree angle but not all the way thru, cut just over half way thru the stem.
Leave the plant to grow over the the season, the stem should still feed the top part of the vanda, but with luck, the bottom will produce a new growth just on the bottom portion near the cut.
I'm sure there are hormones that will assist with this method but I'm not sure what. (Obviously lots of nitrogen fertalizer will help.)
I'm interested too on finding a hormone to help grow keikes
