Lucky,
A 10" basket may be a little too much right now, but that's okay, go with it.

Your plant is still going to be tall, even after surgery, so you may want to drill a small hole in the bottom of the basket, slightly off-center, into which you put a stake to keep the plant upright as it's re-establishing itself. Use twist ties or cable wrappers to secure the plant to the stake. Coax any roots that you can through the bottom slats, taking care that the bottom of the stem (main growth) does not sit directly on a slat.

I'll look forward to seeing your progress photos; in the meantime I'll try to post some photos of my 'Survivors'.

Happy Growing!

Hello Everyone!
Default Surgery pics

Well I am halfway thru the operation and I am hoping that it isnt too late to save her. The stem is dry up to where you told me to leave some room.. < about an inch below the split..I dont see any green .. just kind of dry wood as you can see by the pics.. I wish I would have have known that she needed water everyday.. They didnt even know at the nursery where I bought her.
Maybe there is still a chance after getting some food and water into her she will respond..
As far as light..what is best? I have a window sill or a 400 Watt HPS or MH..
thanks,
lucky
the smaller of the branches is very loose and could break off at the top.. I taped it to keep it sturdy.. It seems that the plant is in pretty bad shape right now.

I should have you on my surgical team ... looks like you're in good shape. Get the basket going and you should be all set.

During the procedure, whats left of the smaller fan started to come loose right where it starts to turn green. It is attached but barely.. I taped it in hopes that it can heal itself. What happens if it breaks off and there is no green left? Will that side just die?
thanks,

From what I can see in the last photo (in bowl), there are still a few good roots on the smaller fan. Even if the smaller fan breaks off completely, don't despair. These roots may be enough to support life on the separate plant. And sometimes the response to the 'injury' caused by the surgery is that a new keiki might develop.

http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ass-vases.html

Hope this helps..cause the Vandas that this grower has are doing very well! So well I am going to take one of my Vandas and try this technique.
