the right name for your plant is:
Ascda. Claude Vorbe
its a vandacious plant in the genus Ascocenda. It is a hybrid specie named Claude Vorbe.
the parents are:
Vanda Josephine van Brero X Ascocenda Princess Mikasa 'blue'

Theres two kinds of variations I found on line:

Ascda. Claude Vorbe 'Amethyst'
Ascda. Claude Vorbe 'Saphire'

when it blooms you will compare your flower with this pictures and you will know which is which

the "BS" at the end of your tag means: Blooming Size
so your plant will spike sometime this year

Wow, I am definitely going to have to try S/H with my Vandas then!

I'd read previously that S/H only worked with roots that grew into the media by themselves and that established roots would likely die in the media. Glad to know that with care it might not always be true!

I only have 2 Vandas in those plastic baskets with just a bit of sphag but soaking each of them in a bucket for 15 mins every morning is something of a pain.
They also tend to grow roots that point in totally annoying directions so that they won't fit into vases

Well, off to get the heat mat out of storage!

Thank You, Susie ! It was Phals that first got me into orchid growing, but when I was given my first vanda, It was easy to care for it because I have done intensive research on the plant...and then more vandas came to my home... I have vandacious plants that are also difficult to grow but I try my best to make them happy and healthy

Thank You, Melanie...read Ray's method of S/H in his site...it is the very first reading I did to learn it. Just add some extra personal touch depending on the needs of your plants and the situation of your growing space...

Thank You, Rosie ! coerulea and sanderiana are my favorite Vandacious plants...the flowers are just stunning. They are the classic vandas any collector must have.

Bud! You are my inspiration (I don't mean to be corny LOL). I dismantled the slate basket my Rhyncostylis was in and repotted the whole thing in S/H in an ugly plastic container. It was easy. Now we will see how that goes!
This Vanda is absolutely stunning. How cool does it tolerate in the winter? And also, how do you drill holes through glass?? Would love to know.

Thank You, Andrew for your encouraging words...you are in a grow zone that is conducive to growing Vandacious in bareroot baskets...you have humidity in your atmosphere and just a few weeks of frost...
I did S/H method because of my apartment situation: the central airconditioning and heating dries up all my plants...aside from S/H ...I still have humidifiers and small ascillating electric fans to aid me in growing my orchids...you can hang the Vandacious plants outdoors in the shade(Rhyncostylis are very slow growing plants it took me 5 years to develop large leaves and large roots before it bloomed= I hope it doesnt sulk on you)

you may look at some videos from youtube on drilling holes on glass
I use diamond coated drillbit I got for $12 at home depot
heres some pictures of how I drill holes on glass
